SOX-XL implements security, cell-level auditing and accountability for spreadsheets. Multiple security mechanisms include secure, role-based access to Excel spreadsheets such that only authorized users can make changes to financial data. Cell level audit trails track all changes to data. Based on a review of the audit trail, supervisors and managers at the workgroup, department, site or division level can certify each sub-process and the validity of data using role-based electronic signatures. These signatures are then rolled up to the officers of the firm to greatly ease their task of certifying financial reports and procedures.
